Will You Hold The Door?

Liquid Church
Oct 1, 2023

At Liquid Church, we are deeply inspired by Psalm 84:10, where King David's heart desires to be in God's presence above all else, even above worldly comforts. David's willingness to serve as a doorkeeper in the temple is a poignant reflection of his devotion. In his time, doorkeepers were crucial in welcoming worshippers, standing watch, and ensuring the temple gates were open for all who sought God. So, when we ask, "Someone held the door for you. Who will you now hold the door for?" We are reminded of the call to follow in the footsteps of King David and, more importantly, of Jesus Christ.

We are called to be doorkeepers, not just physically but also in our mission to welcome others into God's presence through our actions, love, and service. Just as someone held the door for us by introducing us to the transformative love of Jesus, we are called to be doorkeepers, facilitating encounters with God for those around us. We do this by sharing the message of Jesus, loving and serving others, and creating an environment where people can find the door to salvation and the path to eternal life in Christ.

Jesus himself reminds us in John 10:9, "I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture." These words remind us that he is the ultimate door, the exclusive path to eternal salvation. It's a powerful reminder that our faith is rooted in Christ as the gateway to everlasting life. Building on this truth, John 14:6 reinforces Jesus' exclusive role as the way to the Father: "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." This verse emphasizes that our faith is centered on Jesus, who is not only the door but also the path and the truth that guides our journey.

David's preference for being a doorkeeper rather than living a life of luxury underscores the immeasurable value of being in God's presence. It echoes the sentiments of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 3:8, who regards everything else as worthless compared to knowing Christ Jesus. This profound longing to be close to God is also reflected in Psalm 73:25, where Asaph expresses a desire for God above all else.

At Liquid Church, we witness this commitment through our Dream Teams, teams of devoted individuals utilizing their God-given talents to impact lives. These doorkeepers in the Father's House serve in diverse roles, including welcoming newcomers, leading worship, and offering prayers for healing and hope. Like King David and the early believers, they prioritize holding the door open for others to encounter God's love and transformation.

Do you have reservations or doubts about getting involved in church service? It's possible you feel like your contribution isn't necessary, but the truth is, our church's expansion relies on additional volunteers to ensure a warm welcome for newcomers. Some may be hesitant to serve, wanting complete independence in their post-COVID lives. Yet, Jesus' teachings emphasize that real greatness comes from serving others, as articulated in Mark 10:42-45.

By joining the Dream Team at Liquid Church, individuals can experience the fulfillment of serving like Jesus did. During the Dream Team Expo, we provide opportunities for people to sign up and commit to serving. We assure them we will take care of everything they need, including training and a free shirt. This call to serve aligns with Jesus' words in Matthew 23:11-12, emphasizing that the greatest among us will be those who humble themselves and serve others.

The act of holding the door for others in both a physical and spiritual sense embodies the essence of Christianity. At Liquid Church, we wholeheartedly embrace the opportunity to be doorkeepers in God's house, ensuring everyone who enters experiences His love and transformation. Just as King David valued one day in God's courts above a thousand elsewhere, we invite others to join us in serving, following the example of Jesus, and finding true greatness in humility and service. Will you join a Dream Team today, and serve?
