A Fresh Anointing

If you want to repeat history, do it the way it’s always been done. If you want to make history, dare to be different. It’s time for a new anointing for a new season! The anointing is the X Factor– do you have it?

In the Greek alphabet, X is the symbol for the first letter in the Greek word for Christ. It comes from the Greek word χριστός (chrīstós), meaning "Anointed One".  So "Christ" in the New Testament means "The Anointed One". And if Christ's spirit is in us, that makes us anointed, too!

It says in 1 John 2:27, "As for you, the anointing you received from (Christ) remains in you… as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him."

The anointing is the difference between the best you can do in your flesh and the best God can do by His Spirit! The anointing is the power of the Holy Spirit in a Christian’s life that empowers, emboldens and activates their spiritual gifts for special service to God. Suddenly, what you do is no longer just “normal or natural”... it’s SUPER-NATURAL!

"The Spirit of the Lord will come powerfully upon you, and you will prophesy with them; and you will be changed into a different person. Once these signs are fulfilled, do whatever your hand finds to do, for God is with you." - 1 Sam 10:6-7

This is not about losing your salvation. If you’ve been saved by the Blood of Jesus, you are held in the grip of God’s grace- you can’t lose your salvation! But, you can let go of God. You can grow complacent and stop pursuing intimacy with His Spirit. You stop reading the Bible and let your prayer life grow cold. When that happens the Bible says we quench the Holy Spirit. You put out the fire!

The Bible says we grieve the Holy Spirit by letting impurity, bitterness, jealousy, unforgiveness and pride into our lives. This is how we lose his anointing.

Do you have a humble heart? A pure heart? A heart that listens to God? A heart that’s sensitive to His Word? That’s what attracts the anointing!

"But the Lord said... “Don’t judge by his appearance or height, for I have rejected him. The Lord doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” - 1 Samuel 16:7

This doesn't mean that you can't make mistakes. We all make mistakes! It's your response that matters. Will you confess with a contrite heart? God wants your whole heart, including your talents, gifts, hopes and dreams.

If you want God's anointing on your life, go ahead and ask Him for a fresh pouring of the Holy Spirit on your life!
